Smart Craft Studio 2016 - Sound of Silence
At theSmart Craft Studio Hida 2016, our prototype art installation titled as “Ikebana chandelier”. The team consisted of Billy Lee and Brandon Bergem from University of Toronto. Qinqin Yang from Parsons, Cheng Wei Hung from NCTU, and Hiroaki Ohba from Keio SFC.,
Our prototyping concept is based on a traditional Japanese garden and is an installation based project. We were inspired by the effect of the Japanese garden which is ambient, piece and calm. We thought the Japanese garden is very beautiful with its own simplicity and minimalism. When we were searching for what underlies in its beauty, we came to know the word of “Wabi-Sabi”. However, no Japanese people we met so far could well explain what this word means. We could not find any good explanation online either, so we were wondering what “Wabi-Sabi” for Japanese people.
